School desperate for money

South Rutland Elementary School is in desperate need of help.

In January, it was reported that the former treasurer of the school's parent advisory council allegedly stole more than $26,000 from the PAC fund.

Although the former treasurer has reportedly agreed with the PAC's legal counsel to repay the funds incrementally, the school needs financial assistance now.

''We are still taking a financial hit because we are trying to raise enough funds for our school to operate. Since (the repayments) are small payments, it's not going to help us right now," the PAC executive says.

The school planned to host a barbecue and movie night on June 7, but due to rain it was postponed. The new fundraising night is set for this Friday at 7p.m. in the school field at 200 Mallach Rd.

''This will make or break our school this year. We are still $9,000 away from our year-end goal,'' the PAC says.

Tickets are $5 each. The night will include a movie, food, a 50/50 draw, raffles and more.
