RCMP prepare for worst

Alanna Kelly

UPDATE 11:50 a.m.

Castanet received multiple alerts regarding a heavy RCMP presence along Enterprise Way Thursday morning.

Castanet reporter Alanna Kelly responded to the scene and captured what turned out to be an RCMP training exercise live.

RCMP spokesperson Jesse O'Danghey tells Castanet, "there is no cause for alarm."

The RCMP South East District Emergency Response Team (ERT) is actively conducting a police training scenario in an empty building on Enterprise Way.

"Members of the Emergency Response Team are highly trained and are considered experts in weapons and a variety of specialized police tactics required to resolve high-risk situations," he said.

The highly visible training exercise is part of the teams ongoing training which is conducted year round. The ERT crew must stay in tip-top condition and ensure they are ready the next time a real emergency occurs in the Okanagan.

O'Donaghey says, "scenarios are planned in advance and conducted with the upmost consideration for the safety of the officers and the general public."
