Hundreds of hungry fed

Hundreds of hungry mouths were fed last week when staff from Castanet and their community partners Total Restoration spent Thursday preparing and serving meals at Kelowna's Gospel Mission.

While the Mission serves hundreds of meals to the community's hungry every single day, Castanet joined in on the 40 for 40 campaign to celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary.

Throughout 2019, the Mission is looking to get 40 local businesses to buy, prepare and serve a special meal for their clients. Castanet and Total Restoration were the 23rd group to join the campaign.

On Thursday, Castanet staff prepared 200 meals of chicken souvlaki with rice, greek salad, tzatziki and buns.

“No one's cut themselves, no one's injured themselves and we've done an amazing meal,” said Matthew Reimer, kitchen co-ordinator at the Gospel Mission.

“The guests are loving it so far. We love having them here.”

Over the six years he's worked there, Reimer says he's seen many friendships formed, amongst their clients and between clients and staff.

“Watching that blossom is great,” he said.

Other local businesses who are interested in taking on the 40 for 40 campaign can find information on the Gospel Mission's website.
