1-woman debate draws 300

A Tory nomination forum that was initially envisioned as a debate between the two Kelowna-Lake Country nominees drew about 300 people Friday night.

While former Kelowna city councillor Tracy Gray declined to take part, citing legal reasons, her rival Renee Wasylyk went ahead with the event on her own at the Ramada Inn.

Writer and researcher Vivian Krause and former CBC Dragon's Den member Lane Merrifield both spoke at the event, following which Wasylyk spoke and took questions from the audience.

Krause spoke on U.S. market interference in the Canadian oil sector.

Gray declined Wasylyk's challenge to take part, stating she had received legal advice saying her participation may contravene the Canada Elections Act.

Conservative party members will select their candidate April 6.
