Dog napper caught on cam

Alanna Kelly

A Kelowna man is still desperately trying to find his dog after it was stolen from a fenced yard.

Atlas the Golden Retriever was taken from the Taylor Crescent property by a woman about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Surveillance footage shows the dog being taken.

Ian Galt says he heard the secure fence open and drag along the concrete.

“I came out, and the gate was open three feet, and there was a young lady running down the street with Atlas right behind her,” he said.

RCMP believe the theft was targeted.

“RCMP are taking the matter seriously,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Police have followed up on some investigative leads, as they continue their efforts to identify the woman in the video and ultimately locate Atlas.”

Taylor Galt says the dog may be in Calgary, and he's asking people to keep an eye out on social media.

“I need to rule some people out here,” said Galt. “Buy and sells, Facebook pet pages, Kijiji, Craig’s List, if we can get the public looking in those places that would be the most helpful.”

Galt says he spoke with his veterinarian who put a high alert in his chip so when he is brought in they will be alerted that he is a missing dog.

He purchased the dog at eight weeks old from a breeder himself and has paid for all the veterinarian bills.

Police say the woman left in a white SUV. She is described as Caucasian, with blonde hair, and was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, dark pants and a white toque.

“There are some indications that the theft may have been targeted, however police will continue to treat the incident as random until that can be confirmed,” said O’Donaghey. “At this time, there are no other similar reports that we are aware of.”

A $5,000 reward has been offered by the family for anyone who can bring Atlas home.
