Five arrested in kidnapping

Five high-risk suspects were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of kidnapping, aggravated assault, and forcible confinement.

On Feb. 27, police officers were told a man was dropped off at the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The man is believed to have attended a home in Kelowna to purchase illegal drugs and was allegedly held against his will and assaulted.

“This disturbing incident serves as a significant reminder that those who choose to participate in the illegal drug trade are at immense risk,” said RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

He was released from hospital and is recovering from his injuries.

On Friday night, Kelowna RCMP Investigation Section and the Emergency Response Team were called to various locations across Kelowna to assist with the arrests of the five people.

Police say Clayton Zeleniski, 48, of Kelowna has been formally charged with kidnapping, robbery, unlawful confinement and assault causing bodily harm.

Shane Haines, 32, of Kelowna has been formally charged with aggravated assault, robbery and unlawful confinement.

Timothy Hennessy, 37, of Kelowna has been formally charged with robbery, unlawful confinement and assault with a weapon.

Nicole Sidhu, 24, of Kelowna has been formally charged with robbery and unlawful confinement.

Dalton Zeleniski, 18, of Kelowna has been formally charged with unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

All five people were taken into police custody over the weekend and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
