EDS needs your help

The Salvation Army in Kelowna is looking for volunteers to assist with disaster relief efforts.

Those interested in helping with the Emergency Disaster Services team are invited to attend an information session Tuesday at the community church at 1480 Sutherland Avenue.

The Salvation Army works alongside the Emergency Social Services team during local disaster events.

In 2017, they assisted more than 4,000 evacuees due to floods and wildfires.

The community church also serves as a reception centre for people displaced by natural disasters.

The meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. will answer a number of questions, including:

  • What is needed to volunteer with Emergency Disaster Services?
  • Who can volunteer?
  • What training is provided?
  • When are volunteers needed?
  • What are your next steps?

"Emergency displacement for any reason can be traumatizing. The Salvation Army is known globally as one of the first organizations to respond to an emergency and meet immediate needs during these difficult times.

"Our team is well-trained and able to mobilize on short notice to provide what is needed."
