Cat trap catastrophe

UPDATE: 2:50 p.m.

OHS reports that the trap was recovered.

" The tenants at the property called OHS today at 1:30 p.m. to advise it was discovered still there but tucked away further on the premises by their movers. They apologized for the miscommunication to OHS. The carrier has not been recovered as yet," an update posted to Facebook wrote.

The Okanagan Humane Society set a trap in Kelowna Tuesday, trying to capture and rescue a freezing cat stuck outside in the bitter cold, but things took a turn for the worse when thieves stole the equipment.

The registered charity took to social media Wednesday night in disbelief.

''Stolen, unbelievable! We had a cat trap and a carrier to try to rescue a freezing cat today in Kelowna, and some jerk stole both of them in broad daylight!'' the OHS posted.

"A concerned neighbour reported two cats outside on their own in -20 C for several nights and (was) trying to help them with our assistance."

The OHS called the theft "just mean."

The trap was set along Morgan Road.

''It was under a blanket, tucked away in the carport. It wasn’t in use yet. Someone rifled through stuff. Stole the carrier first then came back and took the trap," OHS said.

The two cats remain on the loose, but the society says it has other traps it will use to bring the cats to warmth and safety.
