Hotel lifesaver honoured

Paramedics have heaped praise on a Kelowna man who saved a life.

James Zink was presented with the BC Emergency Health Services Vital Link Award for performing CPR on a guest at the Siesta Suites hotel, where he worked.

Zink jumped into action when a guest at the hotel called the front desk requesting help and a call to 911.

The caller's partner had just suffered a heart attack, and Zink didn't hesitate to perform CPR with coaching over the phone from the 911 dispatcher.

Zink received the award on Saturday at the Kelowna ambulance headquarters.

On hand to thank Zink for his heroic efforts were Unit Chief Catharina Goossen, 911 dispatcher Dakota Stone, and Jim Forsdike, one of the paramedics who attended the incident.

The Vital Link Award is given to recognize the skilful actions of bystanders at cardiac arrest emergencies. They represent a vital link to the patient’s successful survival.
