Ready for 'Kitchen Party'

The Canadian Culinary Championships kick off this week in Kelowna.

Eleven of the nation's top chefs are gathering to determine who is the best of the best.

They'll gather at a welcome reception Thursday evening at the Laurel Packinghouse, where each chef will be given a bottle of this years' mystery wine, which will be a key part of competition Friday night at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort.

Judges and media will sample sponsoring wines and Wine of the Year candidates Friday afternoon.

These include Mission Hill Family Estate which is a national sponsor of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, plus Red Rooster, Hillside, Kitsch Cellars, Time, Da Silva, Volcanic Hills and Lake Breeze. Attendees will also taste the 10 finalists for the Canada’s Great Kitchen Party Wine of the Year competition to be judged on Saturday, with wines from across the country.

The Mystery Wine Pairing Competition is the first event of the culinary showdown. It gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

That's followed by the Black Box Competition 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Okanagan College culinary program kitchens.

That evening, they'll face off again at the Grand Finale at the Grand, with the medallists announced at the end of the night.
