Swarm of grab-dash thieves

Kelowna's Best Buy electronics was hit by a swarm of thieves on Wednesday.

RCMP say just before 3:30 p.m. the Orchard Park Shopping Centre store reported a group of up to six people grabbed various electronics and fled on foot.

Witnesses reported the suspects were last seen at an apartment building on nearby Durnin Road.

While responding to that incident, police learned of similar grab-and-dash thefts from two more businesses located at the mall.

“The investigation into all three incidents, which police believe to be carried out within just minutes of one another and subsequently related, is continuing at this time,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Our investigation will include a review of the video surveillance footage of the mall and any nearby businesses.”

It is believed thousands of dollars worth of tablets and cellphones were stolen.

The majority of the suspects is described as non-white males, wearing dark clothing, hoodies, hats or masks.
