New Marriott on hold?

A new hotel at a signature intersection in Kelowna appears to be on hold.

In January of last year, city council approved a development permit for two six-storey towers and a multi-family apartment at the corner of highways 97 and 33.

The hotel, featuring 200 rooms, would be run by the Marriott chain.

However, with the development permit set to run out in a little more than two months, nothing appears imminent.

The Okanagan Seasons Motel remains active on the property, and planner Trisa Atwood, who manages the file for the city, says she has not heard from the applicant for about six months.

The proposed hotel and apartment project was scheduled to be built in three phases.

The first phase included a 120 room hotel building along Highway 33. The second, an 80 room building and conference centre near the back of the property.

The multi-family building on the north end of the property would be built out down the road.

Attempts to contact the owners, Hollypark Hotels Corporation out of Vernon, have gone unanswered.
