YLW's furry friend

Madison Erhardt

Travel, especially flying, can bring unwanted stress – but Kelowna International Airport's furry friends can help you chill out.

"We have had the Pets and People visiting society bring their pets here as a part of a pilot project with dogs, which started in September of 2017. And it's been a great way to introduce pets and dogs to the travelling public," says airport director Sam Sammadar.

Golden-doodle Jeepster and owner Pauline Harmatny have been walking the halls of YLW since the program started.

"It's so gratifying. It takes one smile, one passenger that is being calmed, or if you have had to leave your pets at home or you have been away, and they see the dog at the airport, it is very comforting for them. It is all I need," Harmatny said.
