Blew three times the limit

A Kelowna woman faces possible impaired driving charges after a Friday afternoon crash that knocked down a traffic lamp standard.

The three-vehicle collision snarled traffic at Glenmore Road and Summit Drive about 3:30 p.m.

A grey Infiniti Q60 SUV wound up high-centred on the median, and preliminary findings suggest the driver was speeding before colliding with a grey GMC Terrain waiting to turn left at the intersection. A purple Honda Civic was also rear ended in the chain-reaction crash.

“RCMP officers detected signs of suspected alcohol consumption,” while speaking with the Infiniti driver says RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “A demand was made and a breath test was performed roadside, which the driver failed."

Additional breath samples taken at the RCMP detachment were more than three times the legal limit.

All three drivers were medically assessed at the scene by paramedics. The female driver of the GMC was taken to hospital for further medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The 36-year-old woman is expected in court on Jan. 14.
