Time to get your flu shot

With flu season on its way, health-care professionals are encouraging the public to get their flu shots.

On Friday, Steve Thomson, MLA for Kelowna-Mission, got his flu shot at the Lakeside Medical with BC Pharmacy Association president Chris Waller.

“I think it's important to get the protection, this is the season to do it,” Thomson said. “Having it easily available, convenient for everyone to do it, we're really encouraging everybody to get out and get one and protect yourself for the upcoming season.”

Waller says this year flu season is not expected to be severe, but he still says it's important to get the immunization.

“We like to start seeing patients about the middle of October, and you can get vaccinated right into January,” Waller said. “Later November, December is when the flu typically comes through the Okanagan Valley.”

Flu shots are free through pharmacies for those 65 and over and for those with long-term health issues.
