Best of Okanagan battle

Alanna Kelly

For one night only chefs and mixologist from right here in Kelowna will battle it out using local spirits.

The 2018 Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery Mixoff is back for another year on Nov. 8 at The Laurel Packinghouse to charm your taste buds using unique cocktails and creations from the kitchen.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery CEO Tyler Dyck said the night is like no other in the Okanagan.

“A night of combining 100 per cent locally handcrafted spirits into cocktails and pairing those cocktails with some of the best chefs in the business,” said Dyck. “You get great eats and great liquid treats.”

Talented mixologists have been preparing their secret concoctions and are eager to reveal them in just a few weeks.

Josh Dwamena, Craftologist, OAK + CRU, wouldn't share all of his plans for the night but revealed a mystically inspired drink from Alice in Wonderland using local Okanagan produce and Okanagan Spirits gin and brandy.

When asked if his cocktail was going to win he said “I do believe this is going to win the competition but I am not going to give away all of our secrets right now.”

Ross Derrick from Codfathers Seafood Market has planned a play on tea cocktail with a South African flair.

“We have a pumpkin fritter and an apple date cake and we have a few more things we aren’t telling anybody about yet,” said Derrick.

Judges will decide the winner at the end of the night but there is also a people’s choice award.

“Where else can you come out and have 10 different cocktails, 10 different tasty treats all for a fairly low ticket price,” said Dyck. “This is the best of the Okanagan going head to head with each other.”

Tickets are going quickly and can be purchased online here
