Basran: rumours not true

Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran is pouring cold water on a hot rumour.

There has been speculation Basran would make a run at provincial politics if, as expected, Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson decides not to seek re-election in the next provincial election.

Basran has stated on more than one occasion during candidates forums leading up to the municipal election that he has no plans to jump ship if he is re-elected.

"The phrase I used is that I intend, if I am fortune enough to be re-elected, to serve the entire four-year term," said Basran.

"There are a number of different rumours ... all false, and some rather silly."

If Basran does have plans beyond the mayor's chair, he's not saying.

"I only have one goal in mind right now, and that's to be the mayor of Kelowna.

"I'm not saying that to not answer the question, but that is absolutely true. That's my only goal, and as I said in my statement, my intention would be to serve the entire term."
