A celebration of culture

Culture is being celebrated across Canada this weekend, and Kelowna is no exception.

The annual Culture Days is celebrated in communities across the nation, and several demonstrations are being held throughout downtown Kelowna, at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, the library, and the Okanagan Heritage Museum, among other locations.

“It's the culture of Kelowna, whether it's history or the future or now,” said Sheila Campbell, Culture Days Kelowna co-ordinator. “It's everything, it's dancing, singing, art, language, it's everything and anything to do with what makes up Kelowna, the people of Kelowna.”

Friday night, Ballet Kelowna showed off what they're planning for the upcoming season, several theatre companies are holding classes today and Sunday and local authors are on hand at the Rotary Centre to talk about their books.

“You're learning about the people you live with,” Campbell said. “It's an opportunity to find out about other cultures, about the history, what makes up Kelowna ... it's a teaching.

“Hopefully people get involved and bring their own culture.”

Events run through Sunday. A full schedule can be found here.
