An all candidates primer

A number of candidates forums, meetings and meet-and-greets have been scheduled around Kelowna in advance of the Oct. 20 municipal election.

The following is a rundown of some of the larger events.

Saturday, Sept. 29. The Society for Learning in Retirement Kelowna will host an all candidates forum from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Martin Centre gymnasium on Graham Street.

All council and mayoral candidates have been invited. The forum will focus mainly on seniors' issues.

Candidates will be given one minute for an opening statement and one minute to respond to a question. The Q&A session runs from 2 p.m. to 3:30 with a general meet and greet before and after.

Tuesday, Oct. 2. The Rutland Residents Association will hold their public forum at the Rutland Centennial Hall, beginning at 7 p.m.

Each of the mayoral, council and school trustee candidates have been invited to set up a table throughout the hall to meet constituents one-on-one.

Organizers expect most candidates will attend.

Due to construction, parking will be available on Roxby Road.

Tuesday, Oct. 9.  The Okanagan College Students' Union will host mayoral and council candidate at the Centre for Learning atrium. The event runs from 9 a.m. until about 11:30.

More details on the format are expected later this week.

Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce will host a forum featuring the four mayoralty candidates. Doors open at 11 a.m. The forum itself is scheduled to begin about 12:15, running to about 1:30.

Candidates will have a chance to state their case before answering pre-prepared questions.
