Busy race for council

It will be a crowded race for city council in Kelowna.

Four candidates had filed papers for mayor by nomination deadline Friday afternoon, and 22 for council.

Including school trustee candidates, “we accepted nomination papers from 36 individuals,” said chief election officer Karen Needham.

Challenging incumbent Colin Basran for mayor are Tom Dyas, Bobby Kennedy and Bob Schewe.

For the eight councillor positions, the race gets busier.

Incumbents include Maxine DeHart, Ryan Donn, Gail Given, Charlie Hodge, Brad Sieben, Mohini Singh, and Luke Stack. Tracy Gray did not seek re-election and has announced her intention to seek the federal Conservative nomination in Kelowna-Lake Country.

Challengers include: Lindsay Bell, Kevin Bond, Mark Boyer, Wayne Carson, Curtis Cibinel, Greg Dahms, Craig Hostland, former councillor Graeme James, Amarjit Singh Lalli, Gordon Lovegrove, Jeff Piatelli, Mo Rajabally, Dustin Sargent, Stef Van Meeteren, Loyal Wooldridge.

School trustee candidates are: Norah Bowman, Rolli Cacchioni, Chelsea Frank, Joel Fraser, Julia Fraser, Terry Giesbrecht, Stuart Kyle, Joachim Nierfeld, Peter Pagliocchini, and Lee-Ann Tiede.

Four trustee positions are up for grabs.

Voters go to the polls on Oct. 20.
