Downtown Y turns one

Madison Erhardt

The Downtown Kelowna YMCA location celebrated its first birthday Thursday with a gift to the community, by opening its doors free to the public.

Local goodies from Glow Juicery, Bliss Bakery and other neighbouring downtown businesses were on hand all day, along with a special birthday cake.

Membership manager Collin Polmear has been working with the YMCA for eight years.

"I always say that the YMCA is a good job for the soul because it's a way to pay the bills and give back to the community so I absolutely love this association," he said.

"I'm really working on heath promotions programming so healthy hips and knees, healthy hearts and breathe well. These programs are for older adult population or anyone who has some of these chronic conditions," said Polmear.

The Downtown Kelowna YMCA is open seven days a week.
