Kerry Park lookin' good

The first phase of improvements to downtown Kelowna's Kerry Park are nearing completion.

Construction of the first phase is now substantially complete, the city says.

Work began in May, where the area around the new Tourism Kelowna building was under construction to accommodate sidewalks, furniture, landscaping, light fixtures and a promenade.

Remaining improvements for Phase 1 include pedestrian lighting and seating, which are scheduled for October.

“Extending the waterfront promenade and landscaping the area of the old ferry landing is a great way to improve public use of the old parking lot that was on the waterfront at the end of Queensway Avenue,”  said Andrew Gibbs, senior project manager.

The remainder of Kerry Park is expected to be updated in the future as funding is available, he added.

Until construction off the proposed Westcorp hotel breaks ground close by, there will be a temporary short-term paid parking lot available at the end of Queensway.
