Purposely set house on fire

UPDATE: 3 p.m.

A man who allegedly set fire to a home and stole a truck has been caught by RCMP.

Just before 7 a.m. on Sunday morning firefighters responded to a report of arson committed at a Robinson Road home.

A man intentionally set the blaze and was chased from the scene by a resident of the home.

The Lake Country Fire Department was able to extinguish the house fire.

The suspect fled into an orchard and stole a teal-coloured pickup truck.

Residents woke up Sunday morning on Lake Hill Road to the sight of the crashed vehicle. Some contacted Castanet News.

The suspect fled from the scene on foot, again.

“Just minutes before 9 a.m., Mounties honed in their search to the 13000 block of East Ridge Drive, after they received multiple reports of a suspicious male, matching their suspect’s description and seen hopping over fences by area residents,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Kelowna RCMP and Lake Country RCMP managed to locate the man and arrest him before he entered a wooded area.

Police are working to positively identify the male suspect who remains in police custody and faces several potential charges.

“All criminal investigations are continuing, as the Lake Country RCMP continue to make efforts to gather evidence to link the crimes,” said O’Donaghey.

Anyone who may have been victimized in any way or threatened by the man should contact RCMP at 250-766-2288.

ORIGINAL: 11 a.m.

Winfield residents awoke Sunday morning to find a truck ditched at the end of Lake Hill Way.

A Castanet News reader sent in photographs of the teal-coloured truck showing how it crashed through a black fence and got stuck over a cement block.

As of Sunday morning the Chevrolet Silverado is still at the end of the street.

Witnesses say police attended the scene, but the driver was not there.
