Bicycle black market?

Madison Erhardt

Kelowna neighbours are fed up with an alleged bicycle "chop shop."

Don Dear is hoping to put a stop to the "sketchy" scene unfolding beside his house.

"You can see there is a makeshift tent. Our neighbour has been bringing in stolen bikes quite frequently. You hear him grinding out there. He is taking off parts and putting them on other bikes."

"There is also a lot of foot traffic coming in and out," Dear said.

The action all started when the neighbouring resident lost his car somehow.

"About a month ago, we really started noticing things. The tent got built really quickly, and the bikes started coming in and out.''

"I guess there was a car accident or something, and ever since the car was gone, the bikes have been in," Dear added.

Residents have contacted RCMP, but say not much has come of it so far.

"I think it was the second time the cops were called, they stood at the end of the laneway. The guy found out who called the police and threatened to bear (spray) the wife and the two children, and they were going to rough up the boyfriend.''

"Everyone is just getting really sick of it," Dear said.
