Good Food Box is here

A Kelowna pilot project is aiming to make healthy, local food more available and more affordable.

The Good Food Box is a project of the Central Okanagan Food Policy Council. The non-profit, bulk purchase program is available to anyone.

“The more people participate, the bigger the savings grow and the more sustainable the program will be,” says project manager Casey Hamilton. "This is great for everyone, especially for those whose food budget is already stretched thin.”

If the pilot is successful, the program will continue and expand with more pick-up locations across the Central Okanagan.

Cost savings are achieved by bulk purchasing from local suppliers and food producers, and volunteer support. The boxes are pre-purchased, then the orders are assembled by volunteers and are available for pick up every other week. The savings can be as much as 20-40 per cent off retail prices.

Funding for the pilot was provided by the Central Okanagan Foundation and City of Kelowna Community Social Development Program. The Salvation Army is providing warehouse space, and the Okanagan Fruit Tree Project Society is sharing some of its equipment and resources.

The Food Policy Council aims to make the local food system more economically viable, environmentally sustainable and socially just. To learn more, click here
