Cyclist slams into truck

UPDATE: 12:20 p.m.

A cyclist has been taken to Kelowna General Hospital with undetermined injuries after he ran into the side of a pickup truck on Bernard Avenue shortly before noon Friday.

Witnesses say the man was getting ready to cross Bernard in the crosswalk toward Mill Street.

Once a cube van went through the intersection, the man rode across the street just as a pickup was turning right onto Bernard.

The cyclist struck the truck near the driver's door.

Acquaintances of the man say he seemed to be OK. He was not wearing a helmet.

This is the second incident involving a cyclist and truck in the downtown area this week.

On Tuesday, a 58-year-old man ran into a pickup near Richter Street and Martin Avenue. That man died of injuries sustained in the crash in hospital.

He was also not wearing a helmet.
