Wasylyk ready to run

While the next federal election is more than a year away, a Kelowna developer hopes being first in will give her a leg up on the competition.

Renee Wasylyk, CEO of Troika Developments, will seek the nomination for the federal Conservative Party in Kelowna-Lake Country.

She will make the announcement official during an event next Wednesday at the Okanagan Innovation Centre.

The riding had been a traditional stronghold for the Tories and, before that the Reform and Alliance parties. However, it went to Liberal Stephen Fuhr during his party's rise to power in 2015.

Ron Cannan, who held the seat for three terms, will not be seeking the Tory nomination.

Wasylyk started Troika Management Corp. in 1998. The firm has grown to include more than 20 companies in real estate development, construction and technology across Western Canada.

There are rumours floating that Kelowna councillor Tracy Gray is also considering a run for the federal nomination.

She told Castanet earlier this week she is not ready yet to announce her intentions.
