Kids - you want this ticket

This is the kind of ticket you don't mind getting.

Kelowna cops and bylaw officers are handing out "tickets" to kids this summer to promote safe cycling.

Youngsters spotted following the rules of the road might receive a commendation for wearing their helmets, or walking their bicycles across the street.

“Simply put, doing the right thing has its ‘tasty’ rewards,” says RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Recipients also receive coupons from McDonalds or Domino's Pizza.

The partnership with BrainTrust Canada also provides for a free bike helmet if a child is found to be using a damaged, outdated or improperly fitted one.

“It’s more than rewarding safe behaviour, it’s a fantastic opportunity for our men and women to have a positive interaction, which may have a life-long impact on the youth in our wonderful community,” says O’Donaghey.
