Slurpees, sunshine, heat!

Madison Erhardt

It's perfect weather for National 7-Eleven Day as the heat has ramped up across the Okanagan.

Slurpee fans are flocking to the convenience stores for their free small slurpee from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  in celebration of the 91st anniversary of the store.

It couldn't come at a better time as the Okanagan has hit a heat wave, which is expected to last for several weeks.

"You have got the right weather for slurpees that is for sure. This weather pattern is locked in for the better part of the rest of July maybe even into August,"said Meteorologist Armel Castellan.

Castellan adds that although the above average temperatures are great for tourism, it poses a serious wildfire risk.

"There is certainly a wildfire risk that is only going to increase as each day continues because it''s going to dry out the normal June that we had and even the wet start to July. Areas are getting quite dry," he adds.
