Freestyle under the stars

Watch top freestyle mountain bikers in person – and on screen – during the Big White Invitational Slopestyle event.

A free screening of North of Nightfall will be shown under the stars in the Village Centre July 6. The film features expert rider Tom van Steenbergen, who is competing at Big White that weekend.

The film begins as dusk, and there will also be a beer garden at The Woods. Bring your own chairs and blankets, and claim a spot on the lawn!

The film shows riders tackling hidden lines among Arctic glaciers too incredible to ignore.

Join Darren Berrecloth, Carson Storch, Cam Zink and Tom Van Steenbergen as they embark on an expedition to the top of the world and discover a changing environment steeped in history, along with challenging terrain unlike anything anyone’s ridden before.

The Slopestyle event runs July 4-7 at Big White, featuring the 25 top-ranked freeride mountain bike riders from North America and Europe, and four wildcard entries. As the last event before selection and a wildcard spot up for grabs for Joyride at Crankworx Whistler, expect the riders to throw down their best tricks.

Regular summer operations will still be running on the mountain. The Bullet Chair will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday for hiking, biking and scenic chairlift rides. It won't run on Wednesday, however.

There's also an Event Expo, including exhibitors Kelowna Cycle, Cyclepath, Dakine, Fresh Air Kelowna, Adventure Smart, Black Tusk Jerky and LYDA Collective. You can even take part in an eBike demo Friday and Saturday.

This is the only FMB World Tour Gold event in North America. Expect to see up and coming local riders join the pros as four wildcards will be chosen from the Bronze Open event to compete with some of the best in the world.
