Mom shocked at City Park

A Kelowna mother is concerned about the safety of children at Kelowna's City Park after she claims a man was fondling himself while staring at her daughter.

We've concealed the mother's identity to protect her and her child.

Her three-year-old daughter had been swimming in Okanagan Lake on May 25 when she noticed a man holding a grey hoodie in front of himself.

“At first, I was wondering if he was looking for someone, because he was by himself and it seemed weird he was just standing there,” she said.

The man was standing near the Sails as the two walked away from the beach.

“As we got closer, I was staring at him and I realized he was rubbing his genitals and using the jacket as a cover while he stared at my daughter,” she said.

“When he did notice me, he turned his back to us,” she said. “I was horrified…my immediate concern was to get my daughter out of his eyesight.”

The mother reported the incident to police, who are asking any witnesses to contact them.

“We ask parents to be alert and aware of their surroundings and should they witness any inappropriate or offensive behaviour to call and provide our officers with a description of the individual and where they were last seen,” said Const. Lesley Smith.

The mother says the man was wearing a navy T-shirt, black shorts and black shoes, grey socks and was holding a grey hoodie.
