Don't leave dogs in cars

Don't leave your dog in the car in hot weather.

A concerned caller to Castanet says she saw a person pull up in front of the Kelowna Heritage Museum on Queensway about 2 p.m. Wednesday, put two hours on the meter and leave their pooch in the car, panting with the window down just a crack.

The caller says she spoke to police and the SPCA, and was told there is nothing they can do unless the animal is in severe distress.

The woman says it's ridiculous that the animal has to be in critical condition before something is done.

The owners returned to the car after about 40 minutes and left the area.

Temperatures inside vehicles can reach extreme heat in a very short time when outside temperatures are in the high 20s.
