Mill Creek floods its banks

Mill Creek has flooded its banks Friday, but the Regional District of Central Okanagan says there's no need to worry, yet.

Just upstream of the Parkinson Recreation Centre, the rapidly-rising Mill Creek has flooded its southern bank, spilling water into the backyard of a condo complex at the end of Ufton Court.

A resident of the complex says the same area flooded last spring as well.

Axelle Bazett, public information officer with the RDCO Emergency Operations Centre, says this area is one of several “pinch points” where flooding is expected.

“These aren't a public risk at the moment and they are in isolated areas, but as with all the current creeks, and flows and levels, officials continue to monitor the levels at this time,” Bazett said.

“It is expected and it was actually planned.”

Bazett says there has also been similar flooding along Mill Creek in the Enterprise Way area.

Earlier Friday, BC Wildfire Crews were at the Parkinson Recreation Centre laying sandbags.

Tree removal crews also continue to cut trees from along Mill Creek, to increase water flow.
