Okanagan's own Dragon

Kelowna’s Lane Merrifield will enter the Dragons’ Den this fall, but not as a contestant.

The powerhouse tech entrepreneur, who founded Club Penguin and FreshGrade, will join Cinemas Guzzo founder Vincenzo Guzzo as a new Dragon on the popular reality TV show.

According to a CBC news release, the pair will join Arlene Dickinson, Jim Treliving, Michele Romanow, and Manjit Minhas for season 13 of the show, which sees upstart entrepreneurs try to entice investors to buy into their fledgling companies.

Merrifield, who first made major headlines when he sold Club Penguin to the Walt Disney Company for $350 million in 2007, said he’s “thrilled” to be joining the “incredible” lineup for Dragons’ Den’s 13th season.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to experience the power and adventure of entrepreneurialism throughout my life, and I can’t wait to share that joy and experience with others,” he said.
