Town hall on new taxes

BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson will hold a town hall meeting in Kelowna March 25.

Wilkinson wants to know what British Columbians think of the NDP government's recently announced real estate speculation tax expansion to the Central Okanagan, and the transfer of Medical Services Plan premiums from individuals to a new employer health tax.

"We want your input on how the new tax increases will affect your business, households and families," says Wilkinson.

The town hall will take place at Parkinson Recreation Centre, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The party leader will be joined by Okanagan Liberal MLAs, Norm Letnick, Steve Thomson and Ben Stewart as well as local experts.

Letnick says: "The so called spec tax is really smoke and mirrors.

"The NDP have introduced a tax on the personal wealth and inheritances of British Columbians disguised as a way to promote affordable housing. In the corridors of the B.C. legislature, they quietly snicker because their deception is working, and most people think the impact will be on someone else.

"I hope many turn out for the town hall and become truly informed about what is really being proposed and the real impacts on them, even if they don't own a second residence in B.C."
