On edge after B&Es

Alanna Kelly

Kelowna residents living on Kirschner Mountain have been faced with multiple vehicle break-ins for many months and have finally had enough.

Aiden Nix caught a thief early Sunday morning on his home surveillance cameras breaking into their vehicles and then going on to break into their neighbour’s vehicle.

“It’s really disheartening and it doesn’t feel like the Kelowna community we have grown to love,” said Nix.

“Over the past six or seven months we have had numerous break-ins on our street, in particular our vehicle has been broken into five times and this recent attempt.”

Nix said he knows of at least six properties that have had their vehicles broken into, some were locked vehicles and others were not.

“I am sure there are others, that is only on our immediate street,” he said. “It is pretty prevalent.”

Items stolen include sunglasses, student textbooks, phone chargers and credit cards.

“It is not high-value items, it is an invasion of privacy, feel less safe” he said. “We have little kids, you don’t want to think there is someone standing outside their bedroom window robbing you.”

Nix is asking neighbours to report any suspicious activity to RCMP, no matter how small a theft, so they can monitor the situation.

“It is one step away from them coming into your house,” he said.
