Murder charges upped

A man accused of killing his wife and two daughters days before Christmas may see his charges increased from second- to first-degree murder.

Jacob Daniel Forman appeared briefly via video in Kelowna court, Thursday. He sat motionless, wearing a prison jumpsuit.

Crown counsel has requested two of the three second-degree murder charges be changed to first-degree murder.

The court did not release whether the increased charges relate to Clara Forman or the couple's two daughters, Karina and Yesenia.

The Criminal Code of Canada states a murder that is planned and deliberate is first degree.

Forman was found inside his home on Bolotzky Court on Dec. 19. Police found the bodies of the three victims inside the home but have not released any information about their deaths or even identified the victims.

Police focused much of their activity on the garage of the home.

Castanet has spoken exclusively with Clara’s family, who said they are doing their best to deal with this difficult time.

April Marie Carlson, Clara’s sister, said: “This is a difficult time for my family, the Forman family and all of Clara's friends.

"We are doing our best to be patient with the system and continue to comfort each other with the hopes of justice and compassion."

Forman, 34, has no previous criminal record and worked in the HVAC industry in Kelowna. His lawyer, Glenn Verdurmen, was not present in court and was not available for comment.
