'Going nuts' over Skittles

Some rare candy is causing a stir on social media in the Okanagan.

Gord MacDonald purchased the white Skittles, created for Pride Month, when they first went on sale.

“I bought them online,” he said. “I knew I had better buy some before they were gone, they were really hard to find.”

The rainbow-less skittles were quickly pulled from shelves, however, after they were blasted for being "racist" or anti-gay. Skittles' usual colours naturally tie in with the Pride movement's rainbow flag.

MacDonald said he forgot about the candies, found them on his shelf and thought he’d try to sell the novelty item on Facebook.

In just one hour, he received more than 50 Facebook messages about the colourless candy.

“They are all white so you don’t even know what flavour you are getting when you eat them,” he said. “I am getting all kinds of messages, my Facebook is going nuts.”

MacDonald said the comments have been keeping him busy. And he assures he has not sampled the treats.
