Fore! Golf season is back

Golf season is back this weekend in the Okanagan – rain, shine or snow.

The Golf Centre Driving Range on Benvoulin Road in Kelowna will open this Saturday, says manager Dustin Shevchuk.

And, while there's still snow on the ground, this will actually be the centre's  latest start in more than nine years.

"Golfers can't wait any longer, so we'll see what happens this weekend," says Shevchuk.

"We had to close early last season and open late this season due to weather, so it's been a long winter. The anticipation to get back swinging is long overdue."

After the weekend, the centre will be open on a weather-permitting basis. But the weatherman is calling for great conditions – Saturday and Sunday both call for mostly sunny skies and highs getting close to 10 C.

"With snow still on the ground, we can only use the ball picker in certain areas and hand pick the rest," says Shevchuk. "With all the calls and golfers stopping by, we expect to be quite busy no matter what the weather."
