Pesticide season almost here

It may seem like summer is a long way off when you look out the window today but the City of Kelowna’s deadline to register for pesticide notification is March 12. The annual registry is for Kelowna residents who wish to be informed when pesticide spraying occurs on residential properties adjacent to their own.

Residents can register online or by phone if they want to be notified.
Those residents who want to be notified by phone can call the Commercial Pesticide Notification Registry Hotline at 250-469-8556.

Registrants will be notified by commercial spray operators the day before or the same day as the pesticide is applied to abutting residential properties. The registry notification does not cover pesticide application on agricultural properties.

Residents must sign up each year for the registry to be kept accurate and up to date. Those included in previous years’ registry must register again if they wish to be included in 2018’s notification program.

The city has also provided information on the best way to get a lush lawn without using pesticides. The website recommends using a compost like OgoGrow or GlenGrow. More tips for a pesticide free yard can be found on the Pesticide Free page on the City’s website.
