Pot pies filled with love

Madison Erhardt

The Kelowna Women's Shelter was flush with pies Wednesday afternoon, thanks to Joey Kelowna restaurant.

Staff at the local restaurant were hard at work for four hours yesterday, preparing the 248 pot pies.

"It's our company-wide program," said Joey's host Taylor Cope. "It's a great chance for our store to give back to the community. It's just nice to be able to cook for them so they don't have to."

Volunteers from both the shelter and Joey picked up the pies Wednesday morning and delivered them to the Women's Shelter in the afternoon.

"Food is one of our most expensive items that we have to buy," said shelter spokesperson Kathleen Lemieux. "So these pies really help us. It also shows our clients that people in the community care about them."

Lemieaux said staff at the shelter told everyone not to make lunch or dinner Wednesday because of the pie donations.
