Tourism in the spotlight

The B.C. tourism industry will use Kelowna as a backdrop when it begins three days of meetings Wednesday.

The annual BC Tourism Industry Conference, hosted by the Tourism Industry Association of BC, will bring together hundreds of tourism operators, destination marketing organizations and sector associations.

Delegates to the conference will address issues, challenges and opportunities facing the industry now, and in the future, ranging from short-term vacation rentals and ride-sharing to labour and liquor policy.

“Notwithstanding challenges with floods and wildfires last summer, British Columbia’s visitor economy again outperformed many other business sectors leading the way in growth, employment, revenues and GDP,” said TIABC chair Jim Humphrey.

“With continued investment in tourism products, services, people and marketing, we see another solid year
ahead for most regions."

The conference concludes with a keynote address from Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lisa Beare.
