Heart attack & rescue

A snowmobiler suffering from a heart attack was attended to by Central Okanagan Search and Rescue around 2 p.m. on Sunday after a SPOT emergency beacon was activated to report a snowmobile rider with a heart attack.

A snowmobile, a UTV ground crew and three trained medics were among the 16 COSAR members who drove to the Hilton Cabin at Graystokes Provincial Park. Valhalla Helicopters provided a Bell Jet Ranger.

Members of the Kelowna Snowmobile Club prepared a landing strip for the air support. COSAR snowmobile crews were waiting nearby in case the helicopter was unsuccessful reaching the patient.

The helicopter was able to pick up the patient, and returned to YLW. They are now being treated at Kelowna General Hospital.
