Rescue dogs need help

The Kelowna branch of the BC SPCA is offering an update on some of the dogs seized one week ago from a property in Williams Lake.

Kelowna shelter manager Sean Hogan says 20 of the 46 dogs are in Kelowna,  the rest are in Quesnel and Penticton shelters. All the dogs require considerable care because some are so fearful that they won't even tolerate people nearby.

A few of the dogs, which are a mix of American Eskimo, husky, border collie and samoyed-cross breeds, are slightly more socialized but improvement is expected to be slow.

Hogan says the original owner may dispute the seizure, which could delay any possible adoptions.

He says the shelter is appealing for "high value" food like roasted beef or chicken, that helps shelter staff win over the most shy dogs, but other needs range from sheets or bedding without stuffing to pet-friendly de-icer, dog toys and cash.
