Starbucks suspect on ICE

One man is in custody while another remains at large following a break in at a Lake Country Starbucks Monday morning.

At about 3 a.m., an alarm company notified police of a break in at the coffee shop on Oceola Road. They were able to follow the suspect's movements on surveillance cameras in the store.

Footage showed one man inside the store while the other stood watch outside.

When police arrived, they say a blue van was parked nearby.

"Upon approaching the van, a male driver placed the van into reverse and sped out of the parking lot," said Const. Lesley Smith.

"The officer was unable to stop the van due to its high rate of speed and dangerous driving."

Police service dog ICE was called in and led officers behind a gas station across Highway 97, where they came across the blue van, which had crashed into a parked boat and trailer.

The van was empty, but ICE led officers to a building on Pretty Road a few blocks away, where a suspect was located.

The 52-year-old Calgary man was arrested and remains in custody facing charges of break and enter and failure to stop for police. The second man involved was not apprehended.

Lake Country RCMP is asking anyone with information about this investigation or any other criminal activity to please contact their local RCMP Detachment. If you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
