Hope heads home

The "Give Hope Wings" fundraising flight is flying high after a $20,000 donation.

The generous contribution pushes the effort past the $500,000 dollar goal with another 10 days left in the flight.

Pilot Dave McElroy arrived in St. Lucia Friday after spending eight days flying up the coast of Brazil.

"It's an interesting beautiful and sometimes dangerous country," said a relieved McElroy on arriving safely in the Caribean. "We had lots of help from Brazilian pilots which was a good thing, we were able to get by with our Spanish in most of South America, but the Portuguese based Brazilian language is something you can't fake."

He says the planes have been operating wonderfully with no mechanical problems aside from two oil changes.

The flight should arrive in Orlando on Wednesday and then continue North and West.

McElroy will make a return appearance on the "Craig Ferguson" show in Los Angeles on March 5 and arrive back at Kelowna International sometime on March 7th.

The funds raised will help Canadian Charity "Hope Air" provide 2,000 charity medical flights. Give Hope Wings took off from YLW January 2nd and will have visited 20 countries at its conclusion. To donate click here.
