Accused lurer out on bail

A former Kelowna resident, arrested last month in Grande Prairie, Alta., on child pornography charges, is out on bail.

Jonathan Karl Bruenig, 34, was released on $2,500 bail during a court appearance Wednesday.

Bruenig, who is alleged to have posed as a girl on Facebook to lure young boys, was arrested in late January, and charged with child luring and making, possessing and distributing child pornography.

In granting him bail, the court imposed some strict conditions.

Bruenig is forbidden from having any contact with anyone under the age of 16, unless under strict adult supervision, or attending any public park or swimming area where children under 16 can reasonably be expected to be present.

Bruenig has also been barred from accessing the internet, or possessing a computer or device capable of accessing the internet.

When announcing the arrest, Cpl. Dave Knight said police have identified two victims, but anticipated more victims and more charges.

Police have said they are focusing efforts on the Dawson Creek area, Northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Australia.

Bruenig is scheduled to appear in court again for election and plea March 19.
