'A great face for radio'

Today is World Radio Day.

And that's a big deal at Castanet, where we recently got into the radio business with the launch of our sister station Okanagan Oldies 103.9.

The day is a UNESCO-backed proclamation drawing attention to the mass media's ability to reach a huge global audience. It is also recognized as a powerful communication tool and a low-cost medium.

Radio is specifically suited to reach remote communities and vulnerable people, while offering a platform to join in the public debate, and has a strong role in emergency communication and disaster relief.

We staffed Okanagan Oldies with three veteran radio voices, morning man Gord Vizzutti, program director Ryan Watters and weekend and newsman Kevin Rothwell.

Castanet's Rob Balsdon spoke with Vizzutti and Watters on how they got into the business.
