O Canada ... oh boy!

Madison Erhardt

The Senate has passed a bill making O Canada gender neutral.

Instead of "In all thy sons command," the national anthem will now go: "In all of us command."

The Senate passed the motion this week, fulfilling the dying wish of Liberal MP Mauril Belanger.

The bill was first introduced in 2016 by Belanger, who had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and who died later that year.

Since 1980, when O Canada officially became the country's anthem, 12 bills have been introduced in the House to strip the reference to "sons" – but all attempts were denied until now.
