Searching for plane by foot

A Revelstoke man has been spending his days and nights searching for a missing single-engine aircraft and the two people on board.

Roland Lamarre knows the trails and mountains better than anyone. He’s been searching on his motorcycle and foot for missing people in and around Revelstoke for the past 20 years.

And all, on his own cost.

“I just can't do it alone anymore, to cover the cost of everything, I need your help,” he wrote.

Lamarre is currently assisting the family of two missing people that were last seen taking off in a single engine Mooney aircraft from Penticton on Nov. 25, 2017. They were supposed to land in Edmonton that night, but vanished.

Since then, exhaustive searches were underway and the investigation was handed over to Revelstoke RCMP. The plane is believed to have gone down in the Revelstoke area

“Ever since I started searching for that plane on November 26th searching day and night I have been putting it all on my credit card,” he said. “I just can't do that anymore it's gotten too high from all the cost going out there all the time searching for them and the cost of permits and tickets.”

Lamarre drives his own motorcycle and then scours the mountain by foot, even in the snow. He often spends days and nights searching and always takes Goldie, his puppy with him.

Tony Romeyn donated his GPS to Lamarre after learning he doesn’t have a cellphone.

“He goes totally out of his way to help,” said Romeyn. “He has been doing quite a bit of searching even in the snow… he knows the trails.”

Romeyn said he’ll spend a lot of money on gas for his motorcycle driving to search locations and created a GoFundMe to help him cover his searching costs

“He is looking too for a SPOT for Avalanche Beacon, he really desires them, for his own safety,” he said.

Lamarre desperately wants to find the two missing people and their plane.

“I have to find a way to raise some funds so I can get back out there and start searching for that plane again,” he said.
